Direct thermal vs thermal transfer

Both print with heat. The difference is whether a ribbon is used.

Thermal label FAQs

Can I print thermal labels on a normal printer?

▾

No. Direct thermal labels need a thermal label printer. For inkjet or laser printers, use A4 label sheets.

Is A6 the same as 4x6?

▾

Close enough for labels. A6 is 105 x 148mm and 4x6in is about 102 x 152mm, so both are sold as 100 x 150mm thermal labels.

Why are my thermal labels printing blank?

▾

The roll may be loaded upside down, so the heat-sensitive side faces away from the print head. Scratch the label with a fingernail: the side that marks dark is the printing side.

How long do direct thermal labels last?

▾

Long enough for shipping. They can fade over time, especially in heat or sunlight, so use thermal transfer labels for anything that needs to last for years.

Which label should I use for Amazon FBA barcodes?

▾

Small product labels such as 50 x 25mm or 60 x 40mm work well for FNSKU barcodes, and 100 x 150mm labels for carton labels. Pack items in FBA poly bags.

Can I buy thermal labels in bulk?

▾

Yes. Most sizes come in multi-roll packs, and 100 x 150mm labels come in wholesale cartons. Contact us for large orders.
