Thermal label FAQs
What size thermal label do I need for shipping?
100 x 150mm (4x6in, also called A6) is the standard shipping label size in Australia. Australia Post, Sendle and most shipping apps print this size. Some services print longer 100 x 175mm or 100 x 200mm labels, so check your courier settings. See our thermal label size guide for more.
What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?
Direct thermal labels have a heat-sensitive coating, so they print without ink, toner or ribbon. They are ideal for shipping labels. Thermal transfer labels need a ribbon and last longer, so they suit labels that must survive heat, sunlight or long storage.
Rolls or fanfold?
Rolls suit most desktop label printers. Fanfold labels come in a flat stack that feeds from behind the printer, so you can print more labels between changes, which suits busy dispatch benches.
Do I need a special printer?
Yes. Direct thermal labels need a direct thermal label printer. They will not print on inkjet or laser printers; for those, use our A4 label sheets. Browse our thermal label printers.
Can I buy thermal labels in bulk?
Yes. Most sizes come in multi-roll packs, and 100 x 150mm labels are also sold in wholesale cartons. Contact us for pricing on large orders.
